It’s human nature to forget the good that’s been done for us as we run into new struggles in our lives. It’s not that we aren’t grateful for those good moments, we just become consumed by our current circumstances.
While new trials may demand some of your attention, they don’t demand you to be forgetful. Forgetfulness can dim our recognition of how God has blessed us through our lives. It can shadow over our memories of rejoicing over our previously answered prayers.
When you find yourselves here, pull out your photo album of past blessings. Rejoice in how God worked in your life and be constant in prayer. This will build endurance to see your current trials as doorways to God’s greatness.
Below is a photo of one of my past blessings. It was a week after my birthday and I was on my way home from having an extremely discouraging day. I needed to hear from God and I felt He wasn’t answering me.
I came home to find this amazing display. My mother in law had come over earlier to surprise me with balloons, dinner, gifts and cake for my birthday. I originally had dinner plans with a friend that my husband had forgotten about.
Needless to say, I rescheduled my dinner plans and spent the evening thanking God for His display of Love. We believers do not believe in coincidences. God showed up!
When new trials begin to consume me, I recall this previous blessing.
I’ll never forget the weekend my husband proposed to me- on the Redondo Beach Pier in California where my parents used to take me as a child.
I always thought marriage happened to other people, not me. Finding true Love was a blessing in itself, but to be the one a man bends on one knee proposing marriage to was a downpour of God’s blessings on me.
I’ll never forget the way I felt that morning, filled with so much gratitude. Visions of preparing a wedding and becoming a wife opened up a whole new realm of Joy in my heart.
So, when new trials aim to discourage me, I think of how God intertwined His greatness into my heart that weekend. I think about the years leading up to the morning of the proposal; how I battled with feelings of unworthiness as a woman, let alone someone’s wife. God felt differently. Much differently.
One of my favorite blessings to look back on was this day right here with my family. I’ll never forget God’s radiant shine through this absolutely perfect day He gave us.
When new trials taunt, look back on a day God spotlighted His Joy into your heart.
Not letting new trials overwhelm our minds is hard. We find ourselves in a place where we forget all the blessings God has worked into our lives, as we stand face to face with these new struggles. Remember to stop yourself and think back to how God has worked in your favor.
This photo was taken three years ago in the backyard of our house we were building. How we were even able to buy property here is a miracle in itself. God’s hand moved through that whole process. Watching my husband’s dream come true nail by nail, I knew God was the one pouring His Love into us. It was an amazing experience and all the Glory goes to God!
New trials are to be expected. God tells us we will have trials of various kinds. His promise was to help us through them. I remember this promise as I recollect the way He has helped me through previous ones.
This was one amazing way God showed up to help me. I’ll never forget how compelled I felt to record outside with this particular song playing. I had no idea what I was recording or why I felt I needed to. I was going through a trial at the time and later I found out my husband had prayed that God speak to me boldly….and He sure did. Gotta watch all the way through. Surreal.
New trials can steer us away from the grace of God. When we aren’t delivered from them right away, our minds has a tendency to consume in worry.
When you start going there, take a little time to flip through the times God has brought you through trials. Don’t let the fear of new trials push you away from the fact that God is always with you!
This is my brother in law. He had an ongoing trial for half his life. He didn’t think there was deliverance or real Hope. He struggled for years. Just last year, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and shortly after my family witnessed a miracle. My brother in law was delivered completely from it all! He gives God the glory for his restored life; a brand new life centered in God’s grace. When my new trials scare me, I think back on this beautiful blessing, and I know all will be good!
One of the BIGGEST ways God has revealed Himself in my life is by blessing me with a man who would grow to be a God-fearing, God-seeking man. A man who takes my hand every day and leads me as God leads him.
No matter what trials come our way, we grip onto one another, and together we take them to the cross.
When new trials arrive, think of your blessings. Rejoice in the mighty work of God and bring both to the cross. He will meet you there.
