WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 1 (May 1, 2017)
Today begins the biggest change the company I work for has ever seen. After 50+ years of representing a major manufacturer, every employee faces the same change walking into the first day of representing a new one. The affects this change will have is unknown, however, that shouldn’t make us resistant to it.
This week we will walk through change and explore its unknown territories that seem to frighten us so much. Change is not our enemy. It’s our motivator for growth and construction for what awaits us. Learning to walk through its gardens of new discoveries will heighten our choices and possibilities. It’s a doorway, not an enclosure. We need to start seeing change this way.
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 2 (May 2, 2017)
Yesterday was not bad at all. We all walked in feeling a bit lost, but that’s just a side effect of change. I was, however, able to observe the attitudes of some around me.
It’s very interesting to me, how change is such an intense activator for discomfort. Some showed theirs through irritation, worry, and negativity towards the unknown ahead.
We don’t want to forfeit our learned knowledge and exchange it for new. We have grown in our expertise, we have mastered the processes, our positions are second nature to us. I get it. I feel the discomfort too, but my focus tends to not be on what I’m losing, but what I’m going to gain.
God tells us there is a time and season for everything, so we know it’s a matter of time before a season ends and a new one arrives. Nothing we learn from the previous seasons is lost. We just get to apply it now to what we learn in the next. That’s when we are able to walk through the thorns of change and come to the pristine beauty it disguises at first. It just takes time to walk there.
It’s surreal to me how God created us knowing change would create ripples of resistance surging through our cores, and that our only true source of comfort and calm through it can come from Him. Just another way He designed us to depend on Him. It’s all good. It’s all beautiful because God is in control.
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 3 (May 3, 2017)
Work was still not bad. Had some C-Level people walking through the building. People’s attitudes are still not aligned. But, as I was working on following up on some things, I received a phone call from my husband.
Our dear friend from church, a man who I sang next to at Praise Group for the last few years has passed away. My heart stopped. Everything went still. Holding the phone, there was silence. After I hung up, I stared at my computer screen.
I thought to myself, “I got this.”. A few minutes later, tears flooded my eyes.
The remainder of the day I spent looking through the flashbacks of memories in my mind. The changes at work seem so small in this present moment.
I wept. I prayed.
God was merciful to Him and gave him a beautiful day before bringing him home.
Sometimes as we are trying to get through one change, another one meets us along the way. It would be easy for us to fold to our pain. The weight is too much. The sorrow is overwhelming. The walk is too hard. Our circumstances are shaken up.
No. Don’t you dare stray from the path. Walk slowly. Walk steadily. Crawl if you need to. But, keep walking in Faith; walk straight.
It may be tough right now, but God is walking with you. Believe. Trust. Have Faith. KEEP WALKING!
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 4 (May 4, 2017)
God knows big changes are uncomfortable for us. Whether that change is a result of a loss or a decision. He knows it stirs up our emotions in a way that could potentially put us in a bad place.
He didn’t design change to harm us. He designed it to strengthen and grow us. He wants us to see that everything will change, except Him. He’s the one thing that never changes. Therefore, He will never leave us. He knows our discomfort and will comfort us through every change we walk through.
Yesterday, I was tenderly greeted by my Father’s embrace. AFTER I snapped these photos, I read my Devotional and knew with absolute certainty He was comforting me.
Part of the devotional read:
“There will be times when you have to look through your circumstances to find signs of my radiant presence. Imagine gazing through a dirty window into a gorgeous, sun-drenched garden. If you focus on the dirt that’s on the glass, you’ll miss the exquisite beauty of the garden. Just as you can train your eyes to see the splendor beyond the window, you can learn to look through your circumstances and “see” my face shining upon you. Seek to find me everywhere.”
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 5 (May 5, 2017)
I spent all day in training yesterday. By the 4th hour, I had completely checked out mentally. Between the mental overload of new information and obsessively looking at photos on my phone of my dear friend who passed away this week, I was struggling to stay afloat. I may have had a little more drive to hang in there, had it not been so cold, gray and rainy this week. Heck, maybe I’m just making excuses for my desire to check out this week.
The truth is with an attitude like that, I’ll be devoured by change’s constant current. Yes, we need to give ourselves time to breathe and refocus, but the world stops for no one.
In fact, I swear it seems to speed up when our lives face revolving circumstances.
Here, right here at this point is where we make a critical decision. We either sink into our fading attitudes or we walk through them in Faith and trust. The difference is a matter of letting our fears dictate our attitudes or we dictate how to change them.
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 6 (May 6, 2017)
The chips always fall into place. Can you think of a time when you thought you’d never get through something and looking back you’re glad you went through it?
Our lives become better. As we walk through change, there are some messy parts to it. There is an adjustment period we need to get through. But, during that stage of change, it’s the mystery in the results that play with our psyche…..
And that’s where our Faith comes in. Change is the beginning of something beautiful, but like any transformation, we need to undergo the process of growth. To make anything beautiful requires time to transform.
WALKING THROUGH CHANGE: DAY 7 (May 7, 2017)
No matter the uncertainty of the changes we must walk through, there is one thing we can be certain of….God.
Be reminded that His promises are everlasting and His Love is unfailing.
We already know that nothing stays the same forever, except for Him. Even though we prefer to reside in our comfort zones, our comfort should never be anchored to anything on earth. It should always be secured in the word of our Father.
It’s not change that dangers our hearts..our lack of Faith does. Be reassured that we serve a God who holds the whole world in the palms of his hands. He knows every curve and every detail. Just because we are limited to how far we can see, doesn’t mean what we cannot see isn’t visible…It’s just not in our view yet.
